Benefits of teeth whitening
Teeth whitening has grown in popularity over the last few years, with people learning the large benefits that follow a teeth whitening procedure. From improved self esteem caused by a fresh appearance to better oral health, teeth whitening is an easy solution to those wanting cosmetic dentistry. Research has shown that many people are insecure with their smile, with yellow teeth being one of the most common reasons. Here at Shifnal Dental care we want everyone to feel confident in their smile which is why we highly recommend our teeth whitening services.
What happens at a teeth whitening appointment
At Shifnal Dental Care, we offer two services for teeth whitening; Zoom whitening and home whitening.Â
Our Zoom whitening is completed by your dentist in a half hour session where the results will be instant. With this option, your teeth will be lightened up several shades, restoring them to their natural shade. During your appointment, your dentist will cover both your gums and lips and apply a gel to your teeth. This gel is then activated by a light in order for it to penetrate your teeth and break up any stains or discoloration.Â
We also offer an at home whitening service with professional tray whitening where you will usually see results over two weeks. For this procedure you will be given a custom-made tray for you to wear overnight whilst sleeping or for short periods of time throughout the day, making this a flexible and more subtle option for you.
The aftercare of having your teeth whitened
After having any dental procedure, it is vital that you follow the necessary aftercare procedure given to you by your dentist. Which is why you should always plan and research aftercare before having a procedure to avoid any unfortunate surprises. For teeth whitening, the gel causes your teeth to be more susceptible to staining for around a 48 hour period. For this reason we recommend that you avoid food and drink that can cause staining, such as coffee, chocolate and dark coloured fruits. The three most common products that stain teeth are; chromogens, tannins and acids. These appear in a large amount of products, but you will only have to avoid these products for a few days and it will be highly beneficial for you. In terms of upkeep for teeth whitening, speak to your dentist for the ideal amount of time to leave before having your teeth whitened again, as everyone’s teeth are different and will have different intervals before procedures. As a guideline, we would suggest to many people to schedule regular appointments that are no more than once every three to six months.
